The tunnel was acquainted with ants, poisonous centipede and mosquitoes. The second highest death during war was caused by malaria. During American bombing Viet Cong were forced to live in the tunnel for many days. The two operations Operation Crimp and Operation Cedar Falls were launched to study and destroy the tunnel. Operation Crimp began in January 7 1966 with B52 bombers dropping 30Tons loads of high explosive only on Cu Chi. Later the bombing plan changed to Carpet bombing exposing most of the tunnel and turning lush green forest to a bare land. Ultimately both the operation failed.
